The Enz – Facebook
This has been a productive weekend for the i9MH crew.
The weekend started out at The Den in Lone Tree on Friday night. Having played with some other great acts we all had a blast. First up, our friend Tyler Putz, played a solo 20 minute set. This was a great preview of what lies ahead in his musical career as he moves to Iowa City this week. Second was the awesome THUNDERFOOT. They really showed the people of Lone Tree what a power trio really is. The entire bar was singing along to songs they were hearing for the first time, it was awesome. As usually Start Wearing Purple is still ringing in all our ears. After Das Thunderfoot we setup and kicked off the set with the James Bond theme, after this we ran through a good number of our originals including the newish biggie jam along with some of the many classic rock songs in our cover arsenal including Rock N Roll, The Ocean, Santaria, and Kryptonite among others. By the end of the night our good friend who helped setup the show, Tyler Telford, was on stage singing with the rest of us. Not to mention Thunderfoot drummer, Alfred, relieving Maxwell of his tambourine duties while trying to take over the mic on She Needs It. It really was another great night at a small town bar, a fun time was had by all.
Saturday did not disappoint either. Tornadoes is definitely one of our favorite venues for live music. This time having the pleasure of playing with The Enz along with Thunderfoot. In typical rock band fashion we showed up a bit later than expected but all was not lost as The Enz showed up early and had a majority of things setup. Once we got there and Jade (from The Enz) setup the drums, the show had begun.
The Enz started their soundcheck with drummer Jade Beardsley on guitar and guitarist Alex Watts on drums. This was quite unexpected but FUCKING AWESOME! After the sound check Alex and Jade switched spots and really rocked it Enz style. Their singer/bass player Spencer Watts (brother to Alex) really moved the crowd and got the Cedar Rapidians rockin. Pluckin’, Slappin’, and Tappin’ the bass he really owned the instrument. Alex and Jade were no different, they really set the tone for the rest of the night. This was the first Enz show since the unfortunate events in November and I can say everyone was honored to be a part of it.
After The Enz Thunderfoot came to rock the stage. In typical fashion the 3 brought it and brought it hard. As a big fan of Five in a Hand, I have to say these guys have the 5inaHand style but with a totally new and distinctive twist. Another awesome thing about this set, they had a guest musicians play keys and slide guitar on the fly. He did it all by ear and it sounded great! If you haven’t seen Thunderfoot live yet, gimme ya badge cuz you really missin out baby. Even if I was deaf, these guys would be one of my favorite bands. Watching them live is one hell of a time.
After these 2 glorious bands played i9MH was up. A little hesitant to play after 2 great sets they got on stage and rocked out to some of the greatest friends and fans a band could have. Pappa Murph even graced the stage with his presence, rocking with item9 to some his favorite originals and covers.
